Bernie Ecclestone views on Formula 1 in U.S

Bernie Ecclestone, president and CEO of Formula One Management and Formula One Administration says that the sport "will not be big in America because US has been slow to get F1 because they want to see a profit before they start."

Formula 1 race has been scheduled in United States with a race in Texas in 2012 with a second race being planned in New Jersey in the year 2013.

Ecclestone also says that a grand prix has not been held in South Africa since 1993; hence he is in a plan to launch 2013 grand prix in South Africa.

Sebastian Vettel who won the inaugural Indian Grand Prix in October will be officially crowned the 2011 Champion at the astounding FIA award ceremony in India which has been moved from the traditional venue in Monaco.

On Sunday Matteo Bonciani, FIA's F1 head of communications announced that Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber and Jenson Button are the top drivers of the season who will be attending the FIA awards event on Friday.

Bonciani added that "the drivers should reach Delhi by Wednesday or Thursday and the awards night will be a very private moment for the drivers."

FIA and Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India (FMSCI) will be co-hosting the event and have planned various activities for the delegates, who will be part of the Annual General Assembly (AGA) beginning from Monday onwards.

Webber wins F1 2011 Brazilian GP

Mark Webber, currently driving for Red Bull won his first race of the year in Brazil.

Till 30th lap Vettel was driving in the first position but the gearbox problem in his car disallowed him from an evenly-matched contest.

Webber, Vettel’s Red Bull team-mate passed Vettel on the 30th lap, claimed victory by giving second place to Vettel and third place to Jenson Button, (currently driving for McLaren) in the driver’s championship.

Although Vettel won here in 2010 and achieved victory in 11 races this season, the final two races have been blemished by some technical problems in his car.

During the end of the match Vettel said that "It was getting worse through the race and I ended up having to use higher gears."

Buddh International Circuit wins Global Award

The Buddh International Circuit (BIC), which hosted India's maiden Formula One Grand Prix last month, has been awarded the "Motorsport Facility of the Year" award at the Professional Motorsport World Expo, central Europe's leading trade-only motorsport exhibition for 2011, held in Cologne, Germany.

Boris Lazaric, COO Construction, Jaypee Sports International (JPSI) received the award on behalf of JPSI, Tuesday.

The nominees include Baltimore Street Circuit, Mugello Circuit and Phoenix International Raceway.

Manoj Gaur, the Chairman of JPSI says that "This is a very proud moment for us and it feels great to be acknowledged for the hard work that made the inaugural Indian Grand Prix at BIC a resounding success."

He also added "I would like to congratulate my team and dedicate this award to every member who worked tirelessly in making BIC a world class racing facility."

Gary Anderson, a member of the PMW Expo Awards judging panel, said the "BIC was an excellent circuit.

Over the last 10 years we have seen many new F1 circuits created around the world, most of these to an excellent standard as far as the overall facility is concerned but lacking imagination when it comes to the actual circuit design."

"Buddh International Circuit has gone the other way and created an excellent circuit layout, which the drivers, engineers and spectators love. With adequate facilities to put on a great event, it will mature into one of the best."

F1 pays tribute to Dan Wheldon

Formula One has paid tribute to Dan Wheldon, an IndyCar racer who died in an accident in the season-ending Las Vegas race on this Sunday i.e. on 16^th of October 2011.

Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of Formula 1, said that Bahrain had paid the fee to host 2011 grand prix even after their race was cancelled.

Sebastian Vettel in Italian Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull's F1 driver has easily won the Italian Grand Prix at the historic Monza circuit.

Lawsuit against Austin Grand Prix dropped

According to the Austin American-Statesman, a District Court judge on Friday granted a plaintiffs' request to withdraw a lawsuit related to the U.S. Grand Prix scheduled to take place outside of the Austin city limits in June 2012.

On June 22, Three residents sued Texas state comptroller Susan Combs, claiming that she did not have the authority to authorize a $25 million payment to support the Formula One race.

According to the newspaper, "Bill Aleshire, the lawyer who filed the suit, said that he lacked evidence at this time to move forward. The lawsuit can be refiled up until Combs writes a check to F1 organizers."

Combs have promised to release the money by the end of July.

"As the facts change or if we're able to get additional information before Combs spends that money, we can ask the judge to prevent it," Aleshire told the Austin American-Statesman.

A spokesperson for Combs said that the comptroller "has followed the law as it is laid out in statute and administrative rules and we are pleased with dismissal of the lawsuit."

However, Aleshire told the paper that his clients still want to see the comptroller's office's "estimates of the tax and economic impact of the race," and that they could refile their suit if the results do not satisfy them.

The World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) voted on 29 June 2011. What did it decide?

Following consultation with the various Formula One stakeholders and the current Formula One engine manufacturers, the WMSC has ratified the adoption of a V6 turbo engine to be used in Formula One from 2014 onwards.

This required changes to the regulations initially adopted by the World Council on 3 June 2011. The full regulations applicable to the 2014 season will be published in due course.

Will a V6 use more fuel, or have inferior economy compared with the original proposal?

No. To push the engineers to develop engine efficiency, the technical regulation imposes a fuel flow control.

When evolving the regulation to fit with the manufacturers’ new request this parameter has not been changed.

Thus the efficiency requirement will be unchanged.

Why has the rev limit been increased from 12,000rpm to 15,000rpm. Is this purely to enhance the sound of a Formula One car?

No. This parameter has been updated from 12000rpm to 15000 rpm to allow engineers more flexibility in power and energy management.

However, as a consequence of the new architecture (V6) and the change in rev-limit, the engine will sound different, but will remain representative of Formula One.

Will the increase in rpm alter fuel consumption?

Absolutely not. As mentioned above, the fuel flow limit will stay the same.

The technologies are the same and as a consequence any increase in rpm will constrain the engineers to work harder on reducing friction and gaining on engine efficiency.

The challenge will be even bigger than originally planned and will therefore enhance the technological lead of Formula One.
