Formula One has paid tribute to Dan Wheldon, an IndyCar racer who died in an accident in the season-ending Las Vegas race on this Sunday i.e. on 16th of October 2011.
Wheldon was the 2005 IndyCar Champion and winner of 2005 and 2011 Indianapolis 500.

While riding at the bottom of the track, his car went in the air and rolled across the track. Wheldon was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Post-mortem report concluded that Wheldon died because of the blunt force trauma to the head.
"This is an extremely sad day, My heart goes out to his family and friends during this extremely difficult time" said McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton.
