F1 2011 Canadian Grand Prix

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team principal Martin Whitmarsh said “The 2011 Canadian Grand Prix may well be remembered as one of the most eventful, exciting and suspenseful races in Formula 1 history."
After a spell of heavy rain that made the circuit undriveable and triggered a lengthy red flag period, the race then restarted with Jenson Button in 21st place.
FORMULA 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has been cleared by stewards over the collision with McLaren team-mate Jenson Button that ended his 2011 Canadian Grand Prix hopes in Montreal.

Button out braked himself into the final chicane on lap seven and got a poor exit. Without seeing faster Vodafone McLaren Mercedes colleague, Button moved across to take the racing line and squeezed Hamilton into the track’s unforgiving wall.
The 2008 F1 world champion from Hertfordshire suffered damage to his rear left tyre and tried to steer his stricken car back to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve pits for repairs.

However, thinking the suspension had been broken; the McLaren pitwall told Hamilton to retire.

Stewards in Canada concluded that “Investigation results for both the crash and Hamilton subsequently stopping on the track was a racing incident and no further action was required".

Fully explaining the FIA’s decision, a statement said: “Exiting Turn 13 there was a legitimate overtaking opportunity for Lewis Hamilton as his speed was greater than Jenson Button’s".

Incredibly, he went on to take the chequered flag with an unbelievable drive, overtaking Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull on the final lap.
After recording the victory of his career, Button concluded by saying that “Lewis knows that I didn’t do it on purpose, and I know that he didn’t do it on purpose either. Nothing was intentional.”

Date of 2012 US Grand Prix might change due to weather issues – Formula 1 news

It is expected that the date of the 2012 US Grand Prix, June 17, might be changed since the temperature in the state during the month is unbearably hot.

The 2012 Formula 1 Calendar was recently revealed by International Automobile Federation (FIA) and as expected, it included the US Grand Prix. However, hours after this decision, questions were raised about holding the US race and its timings.

The race is going to be held at the newly built track in Austin, Texas as the US Grand Prix rather than the circuit in Indianapolis where the Formula 1 race took place for years. The media pointed out that the temperature in Austin on June 17, 2009 was around 38°C.

“This is the proposed date. The date won't be final until the September or December meeting. A fall date is, therefore, possible, which would possibly offer cooler weather,” said Nick Craw, president of the FIA senate.

He added that a later date would be proposed by Tavo Hellmund who is the US Grand Prix promoter. Since the CEO of Formula 1 Management Bernie Ecclestone has played a major role in successfully executing this idea, it is believed that he would also have some major influence in this decision.

The US race is believed to take place a week after the Canadian Grand Prix as these are the only two North American races which are a part of the Formula 1 calendar.

Other than that, the 2012 Formula 1 season is expected to hold 21 races which was quite a surprise as most of the teams have been criticising the FIA for increasing the number of races with each year. Some of them even stated that 20 races should be the limit every year.
